Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992)

Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) accidentally boards the wrong plane and ends up in New York while the rest of his family jets off to Florida for the Christmas holidays. Using his father’s credit card, Kevin checks into the Plaza Hotel.

Meanwhile, the two familiar thieves from the first film – Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) – have escaped from prison in Illinois and arrive in New York at about the same time as Kevin does.

The Plaza concierge confronts Kevin about the credit card (which has been reported stolen) so Kevin flees the hotel and is ambushed by Harry and Marv. They brag about their plan to break into a toy store at midnight to steal the takings for the store’s Christmas sales.

Kevin manages to escape to his uncle’s townhouse (which is undergoing renovations and empty) which he rigs with booby traps (along the same lines as the original 1990 film) and decides to intervene in Harry and Marv’s robbery of the toy store.

Luring the crooks back to the townhouse they spring all the traps he has set and suffer a number of injuries. Eventually, Kevin lures the pair to Central Park and uses fireworks to bring the police to the site.

Kevin reconciles with his family (they tracked him through his credit card use) and gets a truckload of toys as a reward for saving the takings of the tore store.

    The end. Merry Christmas.

The New York Times acknowledged that “Home Alone 2 may be lazily conceived, but it is staged with a sense of occasion and a lot of holiday cheer.”
