Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)

In this 1993 addition to the Friday the 13th franchise (although New Line Cinema did not have the rights to the name “Friday the 13th”, hence the title), Jason Voorhees has finally been killed after an FBI sting operation blows his body to smithereens.

The town of Crystal Lake is finally able to relax, knowing the terror that has haunted them for so many years is finally gone.

But wait . . . a Coroner in Ohio (Richard Gant) eats Jason’s brain (?!) and becomes possessed – then the “evil spirit” goes on to inhabit other characters, hopping from body to body.

A crazy, sadistic (and very annoying) black bounty hunter called Creighton Duke (Steven Williams) tracks the killer back to Camp Crystal Lake but it is up to the last remaining descendant of the Voorhees family – Jason’s niece Jessica Kimble (Kari Keegan) – to stop Jason before he becomes immortal and unstoppable (apparently, Jason can only be killed by a blood relative in order to be sent to Hell).

John D. Lemay (from the Friday the 13th TV series) co-stars as Jessica’s nerdy ex, Steven Freeman. Also in the cast are Steven Culp as asshole TV reporter Robert Campbell, Billy Green Bush as a sheriff, Allison Smith, and Julie Michaels. Kane Hodder is Jason for the third time.

This brain-dead sequel features a shower scene and a girl split in half after R-rated sex. In the most tasteless scene, a creature enters Erin Gray between her legs.

New Line hired a 25-year-old NYU student to direct the ninth in the series. It bombed at the box office.
