A miniature alien spacecraft lands on a Manhattan skyscraper inhabited by a drug dealer and his female, androgynous, bisexual nymphomaniac lover, a fashion model. The invisible aliens – who are looking for heroin – quickly get hooked on the human pheromones created in the brain during orgasm in this sordid landscape.
Punk rocker and former LaRocka model Anne Carlisle plays both male (Jimmy) and female (Margaret) leads – and is perhaps the only woman in film history to give herself a blowjob.
Margaret is taken over by the aliens and inadvertently kills anyone she has sex with (“I kill people with my cunt,” she exclaims upon the grisly realisation).
This increasingly bizarre scenario is observed by a lonely woman in the building across the street and a German scientist (Otto von Wernherr) who is following the aliens.
It’s a very 1980s film. There are neon-drenched nightclub scenes, truly weird spoken word performances, an incredible and totally surreal runway walk-off, and a progressive line-up of gender-fluid characters wearing sharp, wide-shouldered suits, primary-coloured leather, and needle-thin stilettos
This dirty, funny, perverse and pretentiously overlong sci-fi cult comedy was definitely not for all tastes – and very definitely not one for the kiddies to rent during the school holidays – but lovers of indulgent and stylistically over the top avant-garde cinema would not be disappointed.
