James (John Travolta) is a genial New York taxi driver who comes to the rescue of thirty-something accountant Mollie (Kirstie Alley) when she goes into labour in his cab.
Single-mum Mollie duly gives birth to a bouncing baby boy called Mikey. She then sets about trying to find the perfect father for Mikey – but Mikey (whose thoughts are voiced by Bruce Willis) has his own opinions on that subject.
Mollie’s dating adventures offer some of the funniest scenes in the movie as she imagines a future with each prospect as Mikey’s father. Although she tries the safe, secure types. she thinks they would all be bad fathers.
The rest of the film is lightweight and warmhearted as James falls in love with the mother and the child. Vancouver, British Columbia (where the film was shot) though, looks nothing like New York.
