“You’re a creature of the night, Michael. Wait till Mom hears about this!”
This hugely popular comedic film from 1987 was the first film to mix vampires with a rockin’ 1980s soundtrack and kick-started the late 80s rethink of what was cool for movie-going youth.
Forget wearing a “Choose Life” T-Shirt and baggy white pants, and instead, follow the pre-grunge stylings of David (Kiefer Sutherland) and his gang of sexy-cool vampire bikers.
Oscar-winner Dianne Wiest plays the mother of two sons who discover that their new hometown (the sleepy seaside California town of Santa Clara) is overflowing with vampires.
New guy in town Michael (Jason Patric) falls in with the vampires (led by Sutherland), and Sam (Corey Haim) and his pals the Frog brothers (Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander) gear up to rescue him.
The cast of then-largely unknown young-‘uns is spot on, making for a very unique and always enjoyable entry in horror genre viewing.
Director Joel Schumacher never hit these heights again.
“Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It’s fun to be a vampire”
