Steve Martin is wacky brain surgeon Dr Michael Hfuhruhurr in this brisk comedy – He wants to leave his beautiful but evil and gold-digging wife Dolores (Kathleen Turner) for Anne Uumellmahaye (Sissy Spacek). The problem with the latter is . . . she’s only a brain!
Kathleen Turner handles her role of the alluring wife with great finesse and there are times when her own brand of scene-stealing hilarity makes this entertaining takeoff of 1950 sci-fi films doubly funny.
The movie is skillfully directed by Carl Reiner, and Steve Martin’s wry humour works to the utmost advantage of the witty and inspired script. Watch out for the Merv Griffin cameo!
