This lacklustre wartime espionage film tells the true story of how the floating ashore in Spain of the body of a supposed dispatch-carrying British officer deceived the Germans into believing that the Allies had no interest in invading Sicily from North Africa and that the second front was to be launched in Greece.
Stodgily directed by Ronald Neame, it’s less a thriller and more a game of wartime charades. The tale was told better in Operation Mincemeat (2021).
