Adapted from Donald MacKenzie’s novel, Moment of Danger begins with handsome, glib-tongued criminal Peter Carran (Edmund Purdom) and safe expert John Bain (Trevor Howard) raiding a Mayfair (London) residence and grabbing priceless jewels.
They immediately make for a flat shared by Carran and Gianna (Dorothy Dandridge), a beautiful coffee-coloured victim of Carran’s wiles.
Later Carran tips off the police about Bain, robs Gianna and flees to Spain, where he can dispose of the gems.
Bain and Gianna pursue Carran and – using Gianna’s modest savings – reach Madrid. After visiting the city’s seamy side, they learn that Carran is now in Malaga.
Bain and Gianna press on and, while hitch-hiking, join village wedding celebrations and realise they have fallen for each other.
Carran is eventually caught by Gianna and Bain, but he battles his way out and heads for Gibraltar.
Gianna and Bain again give chase and there is fighting in a boat and on the quay, but ultimately Carran is handcuffed and Rain – redeemed by Gianna’s love – confesses to the authorities.
The journey through Spain is eventful, yet sightseeing frequently distracts from the main issue.
Released in some markets as Malaga, Scent of Danger and The Takers.
