Muppets Take Manhattan, The (1984)

This third big-screen outing for Jim Henson’s puppets has playwright Kermit frog-marching his pals to New York to stage his college show – Manhattan Melodies – on Broadway. Alas, he finds that biting the Big Apple can leave a sour taste in the mouth.

It’s not quite up to the standard of the two earlier outings, The Muppet Movie (1979) and The Great Muppet Caper (1981), but the bouncy songs and clever use of Manhattan locations are bonuses.

Muppet movies always feature a vast array of guest stars: watch out here for cameos from Liza Minnelli, Brooke Shields, Joan Rivers and Gregory Hines, among others.
