Sergio Leone produced this spaghetti western and again cast Henry Fonda, the star of Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), as Jack Beauregard, a notorious gunfighter who plans to take an ocean liner from New Orleans and retire in Europe.
Terence Hill plays “Nobody” who idolises Beauregard and seduces him into one last, ultimate showdown against the 150 horsemen of the “Wild Bunch”.
The story certainly has epic pretensions, but the knockabout mood is poorly judged, while Hill, badly dubbed, as usual, is no substitute for Clint Eastwood.
Leone’s involvement is clear from the gunfights, huge close-ups and Ennio Morricone score.
