Production executive and sometime avant-garde film-maker Curtis Harrington made his feature debut with this strange story of a sailor who meets a mysterious woman who may or may not be a mermaid.
The principal setting is the Californian amusement pier where the woman works under the care of her guardian, who claims she was found on a Greek island.
The sailor, played by Dennis Hopper, is thoroughly smitten despite being warned that she brought death to two previous admirers.
