Enigmatic young Melina (Louise Sorel) is the runaway daughter of an American magnate who has fallen in with a group of Chelsea beatniks called The Pack.
She catches the attention of the gang’s defiant leader, Moise (Oliver Reed), but invites scorn and jealousy from the group’s other members, including Moise’s lover Libby.
But their wild and drunken partying is to have dark consequences, and after her disappearance, Melina’s fiancée, Carson (Clifford David) – a clean-cut square arrived from America to bring her home – begins investigating the events of one of the gang’s spirited parties, and uncovers the shocking truth.
The Party’s Over was written by Marc Behm (Help!), with music by John Barry and directed by Guy Hamilton (Goldfinger).
With its fine performances, time capsule location work, and bold subject matter it’s a work of great daring and ambition from a director who would ultimately remove his name from the credits.
It is also a controversial film which fell foul of the British censors at the time.
