Given 30 days to halt the crime wave in his precinct, Captain Pete Lassard (Howard Hesseman) recruits six rookie cops from his brother’s police academy. But the rookies’ ineptitude and an ambitious lieutenant soon put Lassard’s job in jeopardy.
The international success of the first movie in the Police Academy series meant that new director Jerry Paris wasn’t going to mess with a winning formula.
This time the misfits get the opportunity to cause chaos on the streets, but, despite featuring many members of the original cast, this is merely a lazy replay of the original outing, with grossness substituting for any genuine humour.
The film is insufferably cute. Even the leader of the punk gang, supposedly the supreme embodiment of crazed, evil lawlessness, is a teddy bear.
An embarrassed-looking Howard Hesseman, star of TV’s Head of the Class, is the only major new addition.
