The haunted Freeling family has moved to Arizona to stay with grandma. But, guess what? The evil spirits aren’t giving up their pursuit of the family’s daughter, Heather O’Rourke.
This inferior sequel does little more than recycle the original story, yet there are enough supernatural visitations and grisly surprises to prevent the ghostly goings-on from getting dull.
The ghouls this time are from a religious sect presided over by the creepy Reverend Henry Kane (Julian Beck, who gives a marvellous fire-and-brimstone performance).
Director Brian Gibson may think throwing assorted monsters at the screen is enough, but it’s the more bizarre gimmicks (such as near-strangulation by a possessed teeth brace) that provide the fun cheap chills.
