The huge success of Canadian comedy Porky’s (1981) – it grossed over $110 million – convinced the main creative talents that a sequel would be a good idea, so a couple of years later all the leads reunited for this continuation of the story.
This time the 1950s gang from (the fictional) Angel Beach High School in Florida is trying to mount an evening of Shakespeare but faces opposition from the Righteous Flock – led by the fire-and-brimstone breathing Reverend Bubba Flavel (Bill Wiley) – who deem the Bard obscene, and the KKK – led by Eustis (William Fuller) – who object to the casting of a Seminole Indian (Joseph Runningfox) as Romeo.
A tighter plot than its predecessor, but with the same emphasis on sex – and, like the original, it’s very funny in places.
