Norah Benson (Shirley MacLaine) is an affluent socialite and divorced mother of two living on Manhattan’s Upper East Side who seems to be living the perfect life.
After her mother’s suicide, she becomes a mother figure to her shy younger brother, Joel Delaney (Perry King) but he begins to begin to act very strangely: He eventually tries to attack a man and is taken to a mental asylum.
Apparently, Joel is possessed by the spirit of his dead best friend, Tonio Perez (José Fernández) – who just happened to be a serial killer.
Norah ultimately seeks the help of a spiritualist to attempt to exorcise the spirit but Joel turns on Norah and threatens her life and those of her children.
When Joel is eventually shot down, his spirit is transmitted to Norah who ends up possessed herself.
It’s very slow going, looking more like a made-for-TV movie than one meant for the big screen, and the most horrific thing in the film is the white, knitted hat Shirley MacLaine wears in a few scenes.
