Project X (1968)

In the year 2118, secret agent Hagen Arnold (Christopher George) is returning from a mission in Sino-Asia when his plane crashes. Barely alive, he is frozen in cryogenic suspension.

During his mission, Hagen had uncovered a genocidal plan of mass destruction using a deadly new weapon, but an anti-torture serum he was given before the mission was triggered in the plane crash and has erased his memory.

Now he can’t remember a thing about the plan or the weapon.

A team of scientists – led by Dr Crowther (Henry Jones) – attempts to unlock the secrets in his mind with a holographic device that can see into his subconscious when he’s sleeping.

They also recreate a fake virtual reality past for him as a bank robber in the 1960s, hoping it will trick Hagen into revealing the missing memories.

Of course, a mysterious character with a ray gun (Monte Markham) tries to sabotage the scientists attempt to save the world and the story is filled with talk of biowarfare, overpopulation, infertility, etc.

Not much about the plot makes sense.

For instance, why is it necessary to convince Hagen that he’s in the 1960s? (apart from saving on set design, futuristic costumes and props).

And what is the point of the character of Karen Summers (Greta Baldwin), other than as eye candy.
