While playing in a derelict building, four children accidentally kill a young girl called Robin Hammond (Tammy Bourne) and swear to cover it up. But six years later, as the quartet prepares for their prom night, each receives a menacing phone call from someone who knows their secret.
Jamie Lee Curtis cemented her Scream Queen title with this inventively plotted – (relatively) light on gore – entry in the teenagers-in-jeopardy/stalk-and-slash cycle inaugurated by Halloween(1978) and appropriating the Carrie(1976) high-school setting.
An elongated and suspenseful chase sequence through the campus and the surprise identity of the masked maniac lifts it above average.
