“Taste a moment of madness – Listen to the sound of purple”
This movie delved into the psychedelic scene as deaf runaway Jenny Davis (Susan Strasberg) hitches to San Francisco to find missing freaked-out psycho-sibling Steve (Bruce Dern), who think’s he’s Jesus Christ.
She’s taken under the wing of well-meaning hippie musician Stoney (Jack Nicholson) who gives her a guided tour of the Haight-Ashbury scene in the Summer of Love.
As a relic of the flower-power era, this takes some beating – and some watching, too – but Nicholson completists should get a buzz from seeing him as a rock musician and as the film’s romantic lead.
The movie was produced by Dick Clark and features music by The Seeds and Strawberry Alarm Clock.
