Carol (Christina Gregg) has been sexually abused by her alcoholic stepfather, Flynn (Patrick Magee) and when a customer at their truck drivers’ café (Michael Wynne) tries to rape her, a truck driver (Patrick Jordan) rescues her and gives her a lift to London.
Alas, she falls in with evil companions, including handsome pop singer Jo Shane (60s pop idol Jess Conrad), whose main job is being a burglar.
Despite warnings about his criminality, Carol becomes pregnant with Shane’s child and marries him, thinking she can settle him down by getting him to focus on his musical talent.
Kenneth Griffiths is great as nightclub owner, Mort Wilson, and Hermoine Badderly suitably endearing as “Princess” – the fortune teller who gives Carol a place to live and a job.
The backing band in Wilson’s club are The Dave Clark Five who would soon become one of the decade’s top beat groups.
There are some terrific location shots of London’s West End, circa 1960, complete with some dazzling Christmas displays.
This enjoyable crime drama from British B-movie veteran director Lance Comfort – designed to be part of a double-bill (it was screened with A Weekend With Lulu) – was released in some markets as Young, Willing and Eager.
