“Old MacDonald had a farm . . . and on that farm, he HAD a goat”
Billed as “a farmyard farce like no udder you’ve ever seen”, this execrable film stars Michael Balfour as drunken farmer Gyles MacDonald, the head of a crude and grotesque family living on isolated Gomorrah Island off the coast of Cornwall.
Old MacDonald’s appalling wife, Gretta (Jackie D Broad) keeps house while his two daft sons are good for nothing but getting into trouble.
This is a family with disgusting habits. When grandad dies at the dinner table, they first fight over his food and then dump his body on the dung heap.
One night, in a fit of drunken lust, MacDonald has his wicked way with his prize goat, only to be surprised sometime later when it gives birth to a half-human, half-goat creature.
Gyles’ daughter Ronnie (Samantha Perkins) – whose mainland boyfriend, grocers son Lance Allott (Dean Williamson) dreams of owning a store that sells pencils – adopts the baby, naming it Billy. But it grows at an alarming rate into a hideous man-eating beast and sets off on a killing spree. The isolated island is suddenly no longer a safe place to be.
Unfortunately, much of the horror is lost by things happening too fast or scenes being too dark. The concept is definitely better than the finished product.
Made over the course of three-and-a-half years – and undoubtedly one of the weirdest British comedy horror movies of all time – Revenge of Billy The Kid is not for the squeamish or those who are easily offended.
The film flopped on release and was barely even released on video outside the UK. It received a belated one-star review in Empire magazine.
