Rock Hudson is quite funny as George Kimball, a hypochondriac, who – mistaking an overheard conversation during his almost daily visit to the doctor – believes he has only a few weeks to live and asks his best pal and neighbour, Arnold (Tony Randall) to find a second husband for his soon-to-be-widowed wife, Judy (Doris Day).
Arnold, unfortunately, isn’t much help as he deals with the situation by swigging martinis.
The comedy blend of Hudson and Day works well, and the two stars together make an excellent box-office draw.
Paul Lynde – as flamboyant as ever as a side-splitting cemetery plot salesman who “loves people” – delivers his lines with whipcrack timing. Clint Walker is the husband-to-be elect.
Hal March and Burt Bacharach’s title tune is sung by Miss Day, and her costumes, including her sexy boudoir wardrobe, were designed by Jean Louis.
