This Italian-Spanish Spaghetti Western told the story of Scottish immigrants Alastair MacGregor (George Rigaud) and Harold MacGregor (Francesco Tensi, billed here as Harry Cotton), who live with their wives and seven wild sons on a texas ranch near the Mexican border at the turn of the 20th century.
When the nearby town is terrified by bandits led by crime lord Santillana (Leo Anchóriz), the brothers organise an opposing force, and oldest brother Gregor MacGregor (Robert Woods) infiltrates the gang of bandits as an outlaw named “Kid Thompson”.
The MacGregor homestead is a veritable near fortress, equipped with multiple gun ports, various triggered windows with descending shields, and fixed gun positions where a series of rifles are cross-connected to a central trigger so they can be fired all at once.
They also have a muzzle-loading howitzer called ‘Queen Anne’, which they load with explosives, bits of chains, and rusted nails.
The musical score was composed by Ennio Morricone.
A 1967 sequel, Up The MacGregors, was also directed by Franco Giraldi.
