After being released from prison, vicious small-time crook Augie Cortona (Terence Morgan) discovers his old prostitution and protection racket territory has been taken over by a character called Gollar (Harry H. Corbett).
After dealing with Gollar, Augie sets up a blackmail operation, fronted by a model agency and photography studio run by his accomplice, a shabby but articulate photographer named Jessel Brown (Donald Pleasence).
Mildred (Hazel Court) is the hesitant (at first) student model for whom Augie develops a soft spot. What Augie doesn’t know (yet), is that Mildred is an undercover policewoman from the Vice Squad.
Bill Owen appears as Augie’s former cellmate and now right-hand man, David Spettigue. Jackie Collins – who appears as a model called Rita – was so tired of being referred to as “Joan Collins sister” that she used the name Lynn Curtis for this movie.
The Shakedown is a vivid, violent little British crime film which earned an ‘X’ certificate when it was released.
