Stan (Greg Bradford, who did nothing before or after this movie) is a street skater who visits the roller disco with his sister Susan (Maureen McCormick of The Brady Bunch in tight shorts!) to enter a championship contest.
He falls instantly in love with the pettiest, most aloof girl in the place.
This ballerina on rubber wheels also happens to be the kid sister of Ace Johnson(Patrick Swayze in his first screen role), the long-reigning skate champion.
Yep, it’s basically a dumbed-down Romeo and Juliet on roller skates with disco music, but Skatetown USA is a celebration – along with Roller Boogie (1979) of that brief time that roller disco was ruling the youth culture.
The brilliant soundtrack features Earth, Wind & Fire, Anita Ward, Heatwave, Patrick Hernandez and The Jacksons.
