Trigger-happy detective Lou Torrey (Charles Bronson) is transferred from New York to Los Angeles to mellow out.
But he’s addicted to brutality, which comes in handy when he uncovers a plot by insane Sicilian mafioso Al Vescari (Martin Balsam) to use Vietnam veterans to murder all his enemies in a rerun of the “Sicilian Vespers” when the previous generation of Sicilian Mafiosi were all killed on a single day.
Lou’s irregular methods cause him to be distrusted by his colleagues and hated by those he pursues.
This rather ugly and violent thriller is based on John Gardner’s book, A Complete State of Death. It’s more efficient than exciting but there’s an exceptional climax in a desert fortress where the Vietnam vets are being trained.
