When her club-owner fiancé (Larry Don Johnson) is beaten to death by gangsters, foxy lady Sugar Hill (Marki Bey) decides not to get mad, but BAD!
She travels to the swamp and entreats voodoo queen Mama Maitresse (Zara Cully) to call on Baron Samedi (Don Pedro Colley), Lord of the Dead, for help with an act of gruesome revenge.
In exchange for Sugar’s soul, the Dark Master raises up a zombie army of slave corpses to do her bidding and dispatch the minions of suave but vicious gangster Mr Morgan (Robert Quarry).
Betty Anne Rees plays Morgan’s blonde racist, sex-starved girlfriend, Celeste.
The bad guys who think they got away clean are about to find out that they’re *dead* wrong.
As the bodies begin to pile up, Sugar is visited by Valentine (Richard Lawson), a detective with whom she apparently has had more than a casual friendship in the past. Valentine wants to know why the murderers of Sugar’s boyfriend are dying so creatively.
The film was released theatrically in the United States by American International Pictures in February 1974. It was cut to 83 minutes for television and retitled The Zombies of Sugar Hill.
