Released on a double bill with Bikini Beach, A Swingin’ Summer is the tale of a swingin’ group of youngsters who take over the dance pavilion at a lakeside resort when the previous operator, Mr Johnson (Allan Jones), decides he doesn’t want to open.
The money to open the pavilion is supplied by the father of poor little rich girl Cindy (Quinn O’Hara). When her proud boyfriend Rick (William Wellman Jr) finds out, he is adamant that he doesn’t want any “charity”. Of course, before he finds out, all the kids in the film (and all those in the audience) have a rattling good time.
Supporting players include James Stacy, Lili Kardell, Raquel Welch (who sings a song called Ready To Groove) and Martin West.
An energetic, if not very well-known, cast of players keep moving on the dancefloor and in and on the water, including jousting with each other on water skis and pursuing thieves across Lake Arrowhead in high-powered motor boats.
Music is provided by The Righteous Brothers, The Rip Chords, Gary Lewis & The Playboys, and Jody Miller.
