A retired cat burglar becomes the prime suspect for a series of robberies carried out in his own distinctive style and sets out to clear his name by catching the copycat crook responsible.
His quest takes him to the Cote d’Azur, where he encounters the demure daughter of a wealthy holiday-maker, and before long the two are drawn together.
Legend has it that Grace Kelly met prince Rainier while making this film in Monaco. In truth, she met him when she attended the Cannes Film Festival. But To Catch A Thief was made in Monaco the year before Kelly married the Prince.
It’s not one of Hitchcock’s best efforts, but it stars a cool Kelly, a very handsome Cary Grant as ex-jewel thief John Robie, some nice Hitchcock touches and all that mouth-watering French Riviera scenery.
