Director Tobe Hooper never bettered his original 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, but he never besmirched it either.
Though plagued by production problems – none to do with wayward star Dennis Hopper, incredibly – this belated sequel boasts moments of dirty brilliance as it trades the original’s raw terror for demented comedy with the gibbering Leatherface (newbie Bill Johnson), Vietnam vet Choptop (the memorably deranged Bill Moseley) and returning cook Jim Seidow.
Radio DJ Vanita ‘Stretch’ Brock’s (Caroline Williams) open request night is plagued by the annoying phone pranking of two road tripping, party-hard, hoodlums, but things take a disturbing turn when the hoodlums meet their demise at the hands of familiar chainsaw-wielding maniacs, the Sawyer family, who operate The Last Roundup Rolling Grill.
With the entire gruesome ordeal recorded on tape, Stretch seeks out the help of Lefty Enright (Dennis Hopper) – a former Texas Marshall who’s on a personal quest of vengeance against the family of cannibals, having lost some of his kin to the cannibals in the 1974 movie.
