Young Chay (Meg Foster) and Gary (Michael Burns) – two teenagers in love – encounter various characters on their aimless way while hitchhiking together along the California coast to learn about life.
Among the people who pick them up are a selfish, abusive mother (Joyce Van Patten) looking for her runaway daughter; a horny middle-aged trucker called “Diesel” (Hill Street Blues regular Michael Conrad) who locks Gary in the back so he can have sex with a not-entirely-unwilling Chay; and a switchblade-wielding Bruce Dern in full-blown psycho mode who briefly threatens to turn the movie into Last House on the Left.
A high point is when Marianna Hill, as Lynne – a wild and drunken sexy blonde white-trash wife – runs into a bar in her bikini and dances on the bar. She and Meg Foster both have topless scenes.
