Dr Erik von Steiner (Preston Foster) and his colleagues Steve Connors (Philip Carey), Carol White (Merry Anders) and Danny McKee (Steve Franken) accidentally construct a time portal and step through it from present-day 1964 forward into a bare and desolate Earth, 107 years in the future.
They discover a civilisation dying from the after-effects of a global nuclear war and find themselves stalked by huge, hideous mutants.
A group of androgynous egg-headed androids led by Gadra (Joan Woodbury) rescues the time travellers and takes them to the leader, Varno (John Hoyt) who reveals plans to escape to Alpha Centauri before the remaining population are exterminated by a race of mutants – products of the nuclear blasts.
Unfortunately, there is no room for the newcomers so they must work furiously to rebuild their portal.
The mutants attack and Steiner and company flee through their “escape hatch” but discover to their sorrow that they have disrupted the time flow and have gone back too far. They are all frozen in time.
This American International Pictures production is in beautiful Pathecolor and was produced by William Redlin.
