This first movie spin-off from the highly successful TV spy show The Man from UNCLE also stands as one of the best.
Secret agents Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin try to prevent the head of a sinister criminal organisation from carrying out the assassination of a visiting African diplomat.
Comprised mainly of footage from the pilot episode, it also contains additional new scenes that focus on the playboy exploits of Napoleon Solo, portrayed with devilish charm by Robert Vaughn – David McCallum as sidekick Illya Kuryakin hardly gets a look in.
The femme fatale quota is enhanced for box-office appeal, with Luciana Paluzzi as a cold-hearted vamp, a role she played to perfection in the Bond movie Thunderball (1965), while Patricia Crowley has fun, too, as a housewife-cum-spy.
