Adam Sandler is pitch-perfect in his role here as hopelessly romantic cabaret wedding singer Robbie Hart, who falls in love with waitress Julia (Drew Barrymore) at a nuptial function circa 1985 only to discover that she’s engaged to someone else.
Robbie tries to wean Julia away from her skirt-chasing fiance, Glenn (Matthew Glave) and Julia tries to keep her pal Holly (Christine Taylor) out of Robbie’s pants.
The chemistry between the two stars works like a charm and director Frank Coraci has enormous fun with the music, fashions and fads of the mid-1980s setting. Nightmares in 80s hair and fashion are all manifested in Robbie’s friend Sammy (Allen Covert).
This good-natured, entertaining romp has a knowing sense of the ridiculous and it’s topped off by a great pop soundtrack.
