This tale of teenage post-high-school hi-jinks in a singles apartment complex in the LA suburbs was written by Cameron Crowe before he made his directorial debut with Say Anything (1989).
Bill Conrad (Eric Stoltz) is graduating from high school and moves into an apartment after breaking up with his girlfriend Anita (Lea Thompson) who is now having a fling with married cop David Curtiss (Hart Bochner).
Bill works with friend Tom Drake (Chris Penn) – the biggest slob in town – at the bowling alley. Tom’s girlfriend Eileen (Jenny Wright) is best friends with Anita.
Bill’s brother Jim (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) is obsessed with the Vietnam war, fancies himself as a bit of a rebel and likes blowing stuff up.
Often compared to the also Crowe-written Fast Times At Ridgemont High (1982) some have even called it a pseudo-sequel, although it isn’t officially that.
A jukebox soundtrack includes Prince, Madonna, Little Richard, Van Halen, Billy Idol, Steppenwolf, Jimi Hendrix and many others.
Kitten Natividad has a brief appearance as a stripper. Nancy Wilson from the rock group Heart (Cameron Crowe’s wife) appears as the wife of the character David the cop. Ronnie Wood from The Rolling Stones can be seen raiding the refrigerator during the party scene.
