World Gone Wild (1987)

It’s 2087 and Ethan (Bruce Dern) is the stoner hippie leader of the peaceful post-nuke desert community of Lost Wells. It hasn’t rained for 50 years following the 15-year war but the ragtag community of Lost Wells (who live in abandoned cars) has the rarest of all resources  – a plentiful supply of water.

Enter crazed religious cult leader, Derek Abernathy (singer Adam Ant) who wants control of the precious water supply. His homicidal zombie-like followers wear sparkling white choir robes (how do they keep them so clean with no water?!) and use a Charles Manson book as their bible.

The peaceful folk of Lost Wells are unable to defend themselves so Ethan recruits a group of mercenaries led by his old partner George Landon (Michael Paré) to defend them. The hired group include a comic cannibal, a black muscleman, a biker and an alcoholic gunslinger.

Catherine Mary Stewart plays Angie Banning, the only remaining schoolteacher around, educating children from the only four books that are still in existence – including the autobiography of former car industry bigwig Lee Iacocca and a book on Etiquette by Emily Post (which means they are unduly polite).

The plot is straight from The Seven Samurai, pretty much everything else is ripped off from Mad Max 2, and the production values are atrocious with amateurish sound, lighting, editing and music.
