During Duran Duran‘s “gap year” (1985), Arcadia was the girly yin to the macho yang of Power Station, and – surprise, surprise – thanks to hit single Election Day, sold very similar amounts.
They called their album Esoteric. Critics called it the “most pretentious album ever made”.
Contrary to plan, the two unfancied Taylor’s were missing when Duran reformation time came around. Whoops.
The name of the band was reportedly inspired by the Nicolas Poussin painting Et in Arcadia ego (also known as “The Arcadian Shepherds”).
