Although Chris Isaak was loved by the media when his debut album Silvertone was released in 1985, his songs didn’t get on the radio and his videos never made it onto MTV in any kind of meaningful rotation.
Critics also praised his follow-up albums Chris Isaak (1987) and Heart Shaped World (1989).
His romantic, Roy Orbison-influenced brand of melodramatic guitar rock – and highly photogenic metro-hunk good looks – led many to predict huge success for him throughout the latter part of the Eighties.
He finally made the big time with the late-breaking 1991 smash hit Wicked Game.
