Formed in San Francisco in 1991, Counting Crows released their Van Morrison-inspired tunes on the multiplatinum-selling debut album August and Everything After on DGC in 1993. The song Mr Jones took the airwaves (and MTV) by storm.
The eventual follow-up album, Recovering the Satellites (1996), reached #1 in the US and several other countries. The albums This Desert Life (1999) and Hard Candy (2002) followed.
Struggling with mental illness, frontman Adam Duritz all but dropped out of the music business in 2004 until the double album Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings (2008).
