Ian Robert Gomm was born on 28 March 1947 in Chiswick, West London.
Beginning his musical career in the early 60s in a band called Unit 4, Gomm joined Pub Rock superstars Brinsley Schwarz in 1971.
After leaving the band in 1974, Gomm went on to have a US Top Twenty hit on Stiff/ Epic Records in 1979 with Hold On. He also co-wrote Nick Lowe’s worldwide smash Cruel To Be Kind (originally performed by Brinsley Schwarz) and had compositions recorded by Phil Everly, Glen Campbell, Sky and Dave Edmunds plus many more artists around the world.
