After building a strong local reputation, Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels signed with producer Bob Crewe and recorded a million-seller in the raucous medley Jenny Take A Ride – a combination of Little Richard‘s Jenny Jenny and the R&B standard CC Rider.
The formula was even more successful for Devil With The Blue Dress On/Good Golly Miss Molly, but after Sock It To Me Baby the band faltered and Ryder found himself on the slide, suffering from a throat infection which ended his career.
