This tongue-in-cheek band from Brighton formed in 1977, and were originally part of the Brighton punk scene.
Their sound was individualised by the use of sax, and they first came to prominence when DJ John Peel started playing their single I Don’t Want My Body on his BBC Radio 1 programme.
They later developed a penchant for commercial novelty records and enjoyed a hit in 1980 with a revival of Tom Hark – a 1958 UK hit by Elias & The Zig Zag Jive Flutes (honestly!). It was actually South African kwela music, not ska.
Drummer Dick Slexia (real name Richard Adland) died of lung cancer in 2018.
Lead singer Bob Grover died on Christmas Eve 2024.
