An Australian ensemble who took non-musical instruments like tapes, electronic noises etc. and came up with a sound akin to electro-pop.
Tom Ellard began making music as a teenager in Sydney’s suburbs in the late 1970s, messing around with school friends Richard Fielding and Andrew Wright.
Cutting and pasting together tape loops, sampling TV themes, melting records – they used whatever they could to make new and interesting sounds.
By 1983 Severed Heads had developed a steady following in their native Australia, playing their electronic funk on bills with the likes of SPK.
