1986 was a good year for Aussie band The Skolars. After the single No Room For Happiness and their contribution to the compilation album On The Waterfront, came Next To The Oyster – a five-track mini-album (also released on Sydney’s independent Waterfront label) – their third release in one year.
Next To The Oyster combined the gentle melodic pop The Skolars had refined over the years, with a confidence and resonance they had not achieved on previous efforts.
The previous five years had seen the band wear off their initial status as inner-city ska favourites, undergo breakup and reformation (and several personnel changes) and release a handful of indie singles.
