This five-piece power pop band from Southend sounded like the 60s-era Rolling Stones and sang like The Beatles with catchy melody lines and vocal harmonies sweetening up the power behind.
After slogging around Essex pubs in 1977, they finally made it onto Top of the Pops in January 1978 with their singleΒ Drummer ManΒ which reached #14 in the charts. The band enjoyed a brief taste of fame, also appearing on TV shows including Tiswas, Crackerjack, and Cheggers Plays Pop.
While their next single, Money (That’s Your Problem), stalled at #34, the group released two further singles – Wheels and Jealousy Kills (Beware!) – and recorded an album for WEA – also titled Drummer Man – which remained unreleased until 2010.
The band called it a day in 1979.Β Vocalist Chris Turner went on to work as an actor, screenwriter and director.
