The independent British 2 Tone record label was founded by Jerry Dammers of The Specials in 1979 to promote ska-flavoured dance music performed by racially mixed bands.
The label and the genre proved hugely popular and successful and it was perhaps inevitable that the phenomena would be preserved on celluloid.
Using advanced filming and sound recording techniques, Dance Craze captures the excitement of live performances by the bands associated with the 2 Tone sound: The Beat, Madness, The Bodysnatchers, Bad Manners, The Selecter and The Specials, whose 1979 hit Gangsters launched the whole movement.
The film was shot during concerts around the UK and America in 1980.
