10 x 25 minute episodes
Debuting on 29 June 1980, this short-lived youth-oriented new wave music and arts series from London Weekend Television was produced by Janet Street-Porter and presented by young Bermondsey boy and NME scribe Danny Baker.
The 25-minute show presented features on post-punk, jazz-funk, futurist music, ballroom dancing (!), teenage nannies, greyhound stablegirls, the Ford factory at Dagenham, rockabilly, the young unemployed, incest and sexual abuse in the family, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) and the burgeoning New Romantic scene.
Twentieth Century Box aired in the LWT transmission area on Sundays at 1:30 pm. Unusually, it was filmed and broadcast in black & white.
