Gerry Marsden dead at 78 after short illness

3 January 2021

Gerry and the Pacemakers star Gerry Marsden has died aged 78 after a short illness involving a heart infection.

The band had hits with I Like It, How Do You Do It? and Ferry Across The Mersey. They were tipped to rival The Beatles in their early days and were the first act to reach #1 in the UK charts with their first three single releases.

Gerry underwent a triple bypass heart surgery in 2003, before having a second heart operation in 2016, and ultimately had a pacemaker of his own fitted

He is survived by wife Pauline Marsden, whom he married in 1965. The couple have two daughters, Yvette and Victoria.
