School Friend had existed as an Amalgamated Press story paper for girls from 1919.
Revived as a comic in 1950 by Fleetway, the comic published a mixture of comic strips and prose stories. By 1961, School Friend had weekly sales figures of 446,394 making it a clear leader in the girl’s comic market. It merged with Girls Crystal in May 1963.
