    Night Court

    193 x 25 minute episodes

This courtroom comedy from NBC revolved around Judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson), a boyish, blue-jean-wearing judge who had been appointed to New York’s Manhattan Night Court almost by accident.

His unconventional, flippant style dismayed his staff, but often produced unexpectedly positive results with the loonies who paraded through his nocturnal court.

nightcourt_022Those who worked in Judge Harry’s courtroom were almost as wacky as the defendants . . .

Selma (Selma Diamond) was the caustic, chain-smoking matron; Bull, the naive, six-foot-eight, bald bailiff (Richard Moll); Assistant District Attorney Dan Fielding (John Larroquette), an unscrupulous, well-dressed, sex-starved, put-down artist; Mac (Charlie Robinson), the sensible court clerk; and Christine (Markie Post), the sexy defence attorney.

Selma Diamond died of lung cancer in 1985, at the age of 64. Florence Halop replaced Diamond and played Bailiff Florence Kleiner for 22 episodes, but she passed away in 1986 at the age of 63, also from lung cancer. Marsha Warfield was then cast as Roz Russell, the next bailiff.

Harry Anderson died at his North Carolina home in April 2018, aged 65.
